PEDAGOGICAL APPROACH

As an educator, I seek to help students develop a “research toolbox” that they can use for future research projects or to evaluate science coverage in the news or on their social media feeds. Furthermore, I seek to create a welcoming, collaborative classroom environment in which students come to learn not only that science is a deeply collaborative process, but also how their unique perspectives and experiences can enhance our field.

I am especially passionate about mentoring students through their own research projects, and I have successfully overseen several independent undergraduate research projects completed as course requirements or capstone projects. As a research mentor, I endeavor to foster competency in research design, statistical analysis using SPSS or R, scientific writing, and research communication.
